Certificate III in On Country Management — Now Open for Enrolment

July 3, 2026

North Metropolitan TAFE is offering the Certificate III in On Country Management, a hands-on program that builds practical skills in caring for Country.

The course provides practical skills in:

  • Maintaining and protecting cultural sites.
  • Observing and reporting on plants and animals.
  • Conducting ecological and cultural site inspections.
  • Recording information about Country.
  • Ecological restoration and native ecosystem management.

The program also has the potential to create meaningful employment and career pathways, particularly in Aboriginal Ranger and Land Management, Indigenous Ranger, Tour Guide, Cultural Interpreter, Council or Government Worker, Land Management Employee, Bushland Officer and Cultural Heritage Officer.

Employment opportunities may include:

  • Cultural heritage monitoring and site management.
  • Flora and fauna monitoring and environmental management.
  • Ecological and cultural site inspections.
  • Environmental and cultural data collection and mapping.
  • Revegetation, weed and feral animal control, habitat rehabilitation, and broader land management activities.

These roles support the protection of cultural heritage and Country while creating pathways for skills development, long-term employment, and community stewardship.

Aboriginal community groups have identified this as an area of strong need. NMTAFE is keen to reach as many people as possible and welcomes the opportunity to work with Aboriginal corporations and businesses to support tailored training and workforce development.
